Dr John Merefield has had a lifelong interest in ecology, stemming from his badger-watching days in Hampshire’s New Forest during the 1970s. He very much enjoys teaching courses in environmental studies, as it enables adult learners to access and explore his favourite subject through a combination of the physical and social sciences and in a way that they might not otherwise be able to do.
As well as a tutor, John is a chartered geologist with research interests in atmospheric particles. His consultancy work includes the ‘greening-up’ of industrial organisations, and his professional development activities outside the University environment include environmental protection training with UNESCO. His research, training and consultancy assignments have led to work in 20 countries and 75 publications.
And when he’s not working, you’ll find him on his allotment.
